The children of St Albans District Woodcraft Folk chose to send a donation of £300 in their name to Centre 33 St Albans awarded by the St Albans Lions Club following their amazing volunteering with the Santa Float in December 2024. Well done to The Woodcraft Folk.

Here is a photo of John Scott, Treasurer of Centre 33 recieving the cheque this week.

Center 33 Website

About Centre 33

Centre 33 was founded in 1977 and takes its name from it early premises at 33 Hatfield Road, St Albans.  It moved to its current premises in 1991.  It is manned and managed almost entirely by over 150 volunteers. The charity does not employ anyone, although since late 2011 it has paid for part time help in running the volunteer rota, a crucial and time consuming task.

Centre 33 provides practical support for people who are in need, homeless or otherwise socially deprived.  Despite St Albans' affluent image, some people rough sleep in the area, others are living in temporary accommodation or relying on friends’ sofas.

Heathlands School Minibus - 2024

The Lions Clubs that operate the Lions Bookshop in the Marlowes Centre got together to purchase a new minibus, to replace the very old one owned by Heathlands School for deaf children, at a cost in excess of £35,000.

A formal presentation will be made in Hemel Hempstead on a Saturday in August, yet to be agreed.

At the presentation of the New minibus, St Albans Lions Club & Harpenden Lions Club were present.

Also attending were the Headteacher of Heathlands School, Lesley Reeves Costi, Carol Bush the school administrator & a teacher Thomas McWhinney.

swim for alex

St Albans Lions Club is proud to support “Swim for Alex” to help raise £50000 for two charities, Bowel Cancer & Team Verrico.

Roz's Story

Alex was just 34 years old when he died of Bowel Cancer leaving behind a distraught wife, 2 young sons and a loving family. Alex’s wife Roz and 3 close friends are committed to raising awareness of bowel cancer in young people and will be embarking on a relay swim across the English Channel in Summer 2021.

They have set themselves a target of raising £50,000 that will be split evenly between two charities that are close to Roz's heart:

Bowel Cancer UK- the leading bowel cancer charity, they are running a number of campaigns including their Never Too Young Campaign

Team Verrico - a small, wonderful charity who came to Roz’s rescue after she was diagnosed with breast cancer a week after losing Alex. Roz underwent 9 months of treatment to include lumpectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy all while struggling with grief and she owes so much thanks to this wonderful charity for their help and support. They are a no-salary charity kept afloat solely through donations. They provide funding for research, counselling, practical help like childcare and transport and second opinions following a cancer diagnosis.

They need your help to spread the word and help them achieve their goal

Please contact us to donate and help Roz to meet her goal
